Volunteers are found supporting special populations, help with the success of various environmental, library, neighborhood youth and adult programs, and assist with parks and beach beautification projects. The City’s volunteers represent the City’s diversity; including seniors, minorities, students, professionals, families, active and non-active military, and faith-based or community groups. According to the Independent Sector, a national organization that estimates the dollar value of volunteer time, the California value in 2011 was $24.75 per hour. The total amount of volunteer hours received by the City for Calendar Year 2012 was 667,761 with an estimated dollar value of $16.5 million citywide.
